Baseball caps look cool, but do they really shield you from the sun?
Well, they do a bit, but they’re not the best choice.
You see, the front part of a baseball cap shades your face, forehead, and head’s top from the sun. But your ears, neck, and the back of your head stay sunny. Also, the cap’s brim isn’t wide enough to block all the sun’s rays.
For better sun protection, go for a hat with a wide brim. It covers your face, ears, neck, and the back of your head. Plus, it helps to keep your skin safe from indirect sunlight.
If you’re planning to be outside, sunscreen is a must. Use SPF 30 or higher and put it on any exposed skin – face, ears, neck, hands. Reapply every two hours, or sooner if you’re sweating or swimming.
Don’t forget to find some shade between 10 am and 4 pm when the sun is strongest. Sunglasses are handy to protect your eyes from those harmful UV rays.
So, while baseball caps offer a bit of sun protection, wide-brimmed hats are a better choice. And always use sunscreen, seek shade when the sun is intense, and wear sunglasses. Stay sun-smart!
