            Thus, the Indian Olympic Association was established in 1927 and has been recognized as India’s national Olympic organization by the International Olympic Committee ever since. Maharaja Bhupindra Singh assumed leadership of the Indian Olympic Association in 1928.

Recognition of athletes and coaches

            Olympic medalists and their coaches have earned priority consideration for the National Sports Awards beginning with the 2016 Summer Olympics, if they haven’t previously.

            As of 2021, the Indian Olympic Association will award gold medalists 7.5 million rupees ($94,000), silver medalists 4 million rupees ($50,000), and bronze medalists 2.5 million rupees ($31,000) in cash. Olympic medalists’ coaches each receive $1.25 million (about $16,000 USD), $1 million (around $13,000 USD), and 0.75 million (roughly $9,400 USD).

National levels

             As of 2021, the Indian government would provide gold medalists 7.5 million rupees ($94,000), silver medalists 5 million rupees ($63,000), and bronze medalists 3 million rupees ($38,000).

State and union territory levels

           Olympians who compete at the state or territorial level are given financial prizes in varied amounts based on where they are from.
